Welcome Back to School!
Dear
Parents and Guardians,
Welcome
to first grade! I would like to take a
moment to give you some information that will help this year flow
smoothly. If you have any questions,
please feel free to call me at school or call/text my cell phone (phone numbers are on the original info sheet sent home the first week of school) between the hours of 3:30p-6:00p. If I am unable to answer the phone, please
leave a message and I will call or text you back as soon as possible.
v Daily
Homework Folder- Your child should bring home an orange Homework
folder every day. Each
day’s homework is listed on the weekly newsletter. Any worksheets or daily notes from school
will be in this folder. Please check
this folder daily for notes, or to make sure that your child has done his or
her homework. Occasionally, the copy
machine may be broken and I will not be able to make copies for homework. If this is so, I will note it on the Behavior
Sheet.
v Behavior
Sheet- In your child’s daily homework folder there
will be a sheet listing your child’s behavior and work habits for the day. Please initial this each day so that I
know you are aware of their conduct and homework.
v Homework
plan- Your child will have some type of homework
most every night, except on the weekends.
There will be times that I will not be able to make copies or will not
have time to pass out homework. This
will be very rarely, but I will try to note it on the Behavior Sheet. Your child may have to tell you that there is
no homework. Hopefully, it will be the
truth! HOMEWORK IS VERY IMPORTANT TO
YOUR CHILD’S LEARNING. Please help them
when they need it, but allow them to do the work own their own when they
can.
v Homework
packets- All
homework for the week will come home on Monday in the Homework Folder. It is to be completed and returned by
Friday. There is a homework schedule on
the weekly newsletter, but you may choose to do the work on different
days. It is up to you as long as it is
turned in completed and by Friday. I
will only accept late homework with an excused absence.
v Wednesday
Information—At
Oakhaven, we send home important information concerning your child home on
Wednesday.
v Discipline
plan- In our classroom, we will be using a conduct
chart so that each child knows what their conduct is at all times. Each child
starts every day with an G. Based on
their behavior, they move their clip down the chart to E, S, N, or U. Hopefully your child will not have to move
his or her clip very often. Most of the
time, children have to move their clip for talking too much or at the wrong
time, or for playing. If it is something
that I feel that you need to know, I will note it on the Behavior Sheet. Those students who receive an E may receive a
treat at the end of the day. Those
children whose behavior has been troublesome during the day may receive a phone
call or note to their parents or guardians.
v Grading
policy-- A copy of the grading policy is
attached. If you have any questions,
please feel free to ask.
v Birthdays-- We will not have individual parties for each
child in the classroom on their birthday.
We will have one party at the end of the month for the children whose
birthday is in that month. If you would
like to help with the party for your child’s birth month, I would truly
appreciate it. Summer birthdays will be
celebrated at the end of May. December
birthday’s like mine will be at he Holiday party in December.
v Temperature-- It is often cold in our classroom. Please send a jacket or sweater to school for
your child. It may be 95 degrees
outside, but it is probably 70 in our room.
Most children get cold throughout the day and need something on their
arms. They may keep this jacket/sweater
in their locker so that they do not have to bring it home daily. The sweater or jacket must be navy blue,
black, or white. These are the colors
that are approved by the Shelby County School Board. No coats, please.
v Snacks/Nap-- We do not have afternoon snacks or take naps
in first grade.
v Breakfast-- My class eats breakfast in the cafeteria between
8:00am and 8:15am. The school doors open
at 8:00am and children are considered late at 8:15am. If your child wants to eat the school
supplied breakfast, please make sure they are here BEFORE 8:10am. Please note that children are not allowed to
bring breakfast from home or a fast food restaurant to eat at school. If they eat breakfast at school, it must be
the school supplied breakfast.
I
hope that this is not too much information.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at school, or on
my cell phone at the number and times listed.
Thank
you for all of your support,
Mrs.
Ford
